This morning Governor Noem announced the closure of South Dakota's schools through May 1, 2020 to slow the spread of CoViD 19. We will continue to implement our flexible learning plan making adjustments as necessary for the maximum benefit of all our students.

The District plan for moving forward with flexible learning has been posted to the district website, www.grotonarea.com. District staff will begin reaching out to families on Monday, March 23, 2020. The plan includes updated information about availability of free lunches.

Governor Noem has announced the closure of South Dakota schools for one additional week through March 27, 2020. We will be completing preparations for offering alternative forms of instruction beginning next week. Details will be released when they become available.

Reminder: Sack lunches are available for no charge for children ages 1-grade 12 at the Groton Area Elementary from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Out-of-town service can be arranged by calling the High School - 605-397-8381.

Sack lunches will be available at no charge for children from age 1 through grade 12 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Groton Area Elementary from Tuesday 3/17 through Friday 3/20.

Groton Area Elementary Students will be attending the wrestling pep rally this afternoon at 3:00 in the high school gym. Bus students will load at the high school. OST, Walkers, and Pickup students will come back to the elementary for dismissal. Please plan for students to be late. Thank you

5th grade students were able to experience first hand how electricity travels and how to safely remove themselves from dangerous situations. They also were able to learn about how to conserve energy when using different household appliances.



OST will be closed on February 13 due to school being closed. No field trip to Aberdeen. OST will be closed February 14 for teacher in-service.

Due to the extremely low wind chill temps through the morning tomorrow, there will be no school in Groton on February 13, 2020. Parent-teacher conferences will take place as scheduled from 1:30-8:30 PM.

Good afternoon. The elementary teachers would like all parents to know that students will be handing out their valentines gifts tomorrow morning. For the sake of not ruining lunch, we will plan to have their parties on Tuesday afternoon.

Due to the weather forecast for today including a Blizzard Warning for parts of our District followed by a Wind Chill Warning for dangerous wind chills, there will be no school in Groton on Wednesday, February 12.
