Attention Groton Area

Dear Families,

We want to take a moment to address an ongoing concern regarding student behavior at our home high school volleyball matches and to set clear expectations moving forward for all upcoming indoor athletic events, including the winter basketball season.

We’ve observed a number of students frequently:

• Running along the bleachers to and from the arena lobby

• Leaving the arena and running through hallways

• Gathering and misbehaving in the concession lobby

• Sneaking into unauthorized areas such as the wrestling room, locker rooms, the old gym, and storage areas

• Ignoring staff instructions to sit and remain in the arena

This type of behavior is disruptive, and more importantly, it presents a serious safety concern for all spectators, athletes, and officials. Despite previous reminders, these issues have continued.

Going forward, please note:

• Students must remain in the arena unless using the restroom or purchasing concessions.

• There is to be no running, loitering, or horseplay in the hallways or lobby.

• Entry into restricted areas (e.g., wrestling room, locker rooms, old gym) is strictly prohibited.

• Students are expected to follow the directions of staff and event supervisors at all times.

If students cannot meet these expectations, they may be asked to leave the event and could lose the privilege of attending future games. This will apply not only to volleyball but to all upcoming basketball games and other indoor events.

We appreciate your support in reinforcing these expectations at home. Our goal is to create a safe, respectful, and positive environment for everyone who attends and supports our athletic programs.

Sincerely,

Joe Schwan, Superintendent
